You may have to restore it so that the computer can recognize it, to do this click all programs on your pc, then ipod update and finally restore ipod to factory settings, also before you do this make sure that the music thats on your ipod because when you restore it all your files will be deleted.

Yeah try what egyptian girl said, when they are really flat, it takes a while for the computer to pick them up as a device, so charge it in the AC adapter for a while, then try plugging it into the computer.

If that doesn't work then maybe try searching for devices? Restarting the computer maybe? I know they are pretty generic solutions, but it might be worth a shot.

Good luck

Put in the charger that goes into an actual outlet plug thing and let it charge

I would go with her suggestion, or on the way stop at you local wal-mart or some thing and pick up an ipod car charger, I did and they aren't too expensive.
