If you owe tax, your tax will reduced by up to $1,000 by the Child Tax Credit.

If you owe less than $1,000 before the Child Tax Credit is used, then you will owe no tax. You may get some of the unused credit back as Additional Child Tax Credit, if your income is over $11,300.
