She is a self made women in a world were she had 3 things against her she was a women, black and overweight and she rose above these to become the richest woman in America ,I think that makes her a pretty good role model for all who want the great American dream. Its a pity there aren't more Oprahs in the world.

She's a great and cheery person. Realistically that is it. She has made minor contributions here and there that she can qualify as personal or corporate tax write-offs. She has started a magazine that women identified with and convinced them that she had something to do with developing the TV channel associated with it, even though she didn't. She is by no means a huge philanthropist, but she 'sponsors' a few charities, the ones that her friends and family work in or for, so every contribution comes back to her eventually, three-fold or more.
I'm sure she's a wonderful person to know, but don't get it twisted, the only thing she has done to better this world is constantly cheer us up with her (normally) sunshiney disposition and smile.

She has done a lot. She is an amazing black woman of great income status. She is building a school. She is very out spoken about issues that have been hidden under the rug. She has been a living example of over coming the weight problem when genetics don't want to budge. Oprah is a great gal. Oh yeah she brings great celebs to her show.

For one she has spread joy and cheerfulness through her show instead of taking the load road of Talk Shows like Jerry Springer and the other Trash Culture hosts have. She has given much, no not not but a lot of her own money to benefit the underprivileged of this country and many other countries. She's intelligent and has encouraged reading as a way for people to lift themselves up.

She donates millions of dollars a year to underprivileged kids and families in Africa, she gave millions to the victims of hurricane Katrina, she runs her Angel Network that helps people every day (funded by her own money and donations from viewers) and she recently started her Most Wanted list where she names wanted pedophiles and rapists on her show, and shows their pictures. This list has already lead to the capture of many wanted sex offenders. What have you ever done for the world?

This woman has literally given until it hurts, well I guess she makes a lot of money and it really don't hurt her, but she has helped many of an organization, but also she is trying to do decent things in this world, notice her shows don't include trying to find the father of a child every other day, but she is trying to teach things like safe sex and good relationships. She is getting her messages out in a more dignified way I think.

She gives away EVERYONE else's money for promotional value for her & the "donating" company.
I don't think she is much of a role model myself.
When she has anyone on her show all she does it talk about herself & her rough life.
She used to be watchable when she first started her show.
Now all it is are more celebrity interviews (as if there weren't enough already).
I heard she has TWO new shows coming out.
Guess she's gonna be having s much "air"-head time as her equally annoying buddy Rachel Ray.
