I need a metaphor or similie for how the outside of an apple tastes like, which is basically tasteless... any ideas??

How about prose?

...its skin appeared unblemished and gave no hint; the touch of the tongue and lips belied the fruit itself. In truth, the only suggestion the apple gave as to its' delicacy was the faintly wafting trace of an aroma that would no more than intimate the wholesome pleasure that could only be had by tasting.

Or...

...much like a young love's first kiss - no amount of watching or guessing can equal the act itself. An apple gives away nothing of itself. One must simply close their eyes and participate in the pleasure.

I'm assuming this is for a class, so I would say that the skin of an apple tastes the beginning of fall. Or maybe a memory you have of that time of year. Teachers usually like that sort of thing. Good luck!
