let go of a guy i REALLY like? i've been obsessed with him for a long time. i recently realized that i can't have him. (btw i'm a girl...)

bc one of my friends flirts with him, and he does it back. so i have no chance at it. oh well, yes it hurts tremendously, but i'll have to deal right?

how?

Taselle, I'm sorry you're experiencing pain with this dysfunctional relationship. I see from your profile that you're a teen and my 17-year old daughter has experienced some of the same recently. I also remember some of my first relationships in high school years ago and it was incredibly painful when I felt rejected, dismissed or emotionally "played with."

The good news is you're young and you don't have to take this guy or any guy this seriously right now. You've probably heard this from your parents, but the strong feelings you have for him will change and pass as you mature.

Keep him as a friend, but if he's a player, don't feel obligated to date or even encourage him. There are lots of good guys out there and there is no rush to find one. Focus on the things in life that matter right now - school, fun, laughter, friends... Don't take steps in your life to tie you down too much.

It's an older book now but you might want to check out: "The Ten Stupid Things Women Do To Mess Up Their Lives" by Dr. Laura at your library or "Chicken Soup For The Teenage Soul" by Jack Canfield. Stay focused on the things in life that are positive and healthy and avoid the things that are negative and bum you out. Don't let the flames of youth destroy your spirit - be strong and develop your own personality, character, ethics, principles and goals first - don't worry about guys. At this age, they don't know what they want anyway...

You already started by the hardest part which is acknowledging that you can't have him.
Secondly, if you have anything that reminds you of him you get rid of it.
Third, you stop looking for chances to meet him, see him, be with him or have something to talk to him about.
You hang out with your friends and focus on having a good time on your own.
Soon you will stop giving the "I am not interested in you" vibe to other guys who will see you as "available" and before you know it you won't be thinking about him anymore.
