What would it cost to have 3,000 square feet of artificial turf around a residence? What would be the cost of golf quality versus playground quality? Could you put a golf quality section in and have it blend in with the playground part? How do they install it? How long does it last? Does it look crummy after a couple of years? What is underneath it? What should we know? I'd appreciate any help or advice you can give me. Thanks!

3,000 square feet?? Zowie! The stuff ain't cheap! Think $6-10 per square foot.

Installation is a prepared substrate, turf, then a rubber mixture over the top that works it's way down providing the cushion feel you expect from turf. Here's a web site:

Remember, dirt and plant trash still blows onto these so you have to wash it off or vacuum. Sun fade has been quite a concern, I'm assuming they have conquered it by now. Heat is another concern. It is HOT over artificial turf. What you save in water you may make up for in higher home cooling costs.
