I know it's not out yet (June), but... I still was hoping to find out what the possiblities are.
Thanks!

Yes you can. But the problem is that the iPhone will be exclusive to Cingular, which means it will be locked to work only with Cingular SIM Cards. Unlocking the phone may be hard if not impossible for some time after it comes out. Also keep in mind that your friend in Spain will not be able to take advantage of the 3G Networks, due to the difference in the frequencies of the phone. It will work fine on GSM but not on 3G. In the US Cingular's 3G operates at 1900Mhz, while All over the world the 3G operates at 2100Mhz. Also since it will be Cingular branded phone it will have the settings for Cingular’s access points, in other words your friend won’t be able to connect to the internet if he/she uses GPRS or EDGE (unless he/she edits the access points). He/she should still be able to use the Wi-Fi to connect to the internet.

It's not even out yet...I don't think anyone could have a true answer to that question. That said, it utilizes GSM technology which means that a sim card is required to make the phone work. If you sent it to your friend it may work with a Spanish sim card, however, they may use different bands in Spain. I believe only a quad band phone will work in Europe and the United States. I don't know that those sorts of details have been released yet for the iPhone. I'd hold off before pre-ordering one until these details can be ascertained.
