How can Dems expect a person to support their family on $7.25 an hour? That's a joke! They shouldn't waste their time only raising to 7.25 when they will just have to raise it again to get people out of poverty through work.

They should make the minimum wage at least $10 an hour or more and mandate 100% employer-paid health insurance too.
And in Europe they get like 6 weeks holiday each year, and entry level employees barely get any vacation time.

It is a joke. I say minimum wage should be $32.40 an hour.
How's that?

Well, 7.25 is way better than 5.15 an hour. The last time it was raised was over 10 years ago and even then it was only raised about a dollar. It's ridiculous that there are so many people living off the government and not working at all, and these people who are trying so hard to make it out of poverty will barely scrape by. However, the government will pay for everything for people who are not working at all. Ridiculous. Especially since now it's hard to get a secretary job paying $8 an hour without at least an Associates Degreee. With my bills, even with my husband and I working full time, we barely make it every month. Our government needs to realize how many people are struggling who are TRYING to get out of bad situations.

And don't even try to say that a billion dollar a year company like McDonalds can't afford to pay more per hour. If they paid more, maybe people would be more likely to stay there, and they wouldn't have such a high turnaround rate. Maybe the employees will work harder when they are being paid what they deserve. And don't tell me it's pathetic to work at McDonalds because someone's gotta do it or the business will go under.

raising minimum wage will only hrt the people you are trying to help. I've got a better idea why dont you help the people on minimum wage with schooling and training so they wont be on a minimum wage? It is set up as an entry level wage, not something to stay on forever.

oh yeah the government will save you, since you cant seem to find a job that pays more than minimum wage, meanwhile businesses will have to either cut employees or raise the cost's onto consumers, which means any pay raise on minimum wages wont really add up to much, but like you said for europe(and most of it is a socialistic society) you want something for nothing or very little

I agree that minimum wage is too low, it is supposed to be able to support a person in the essentials for living, which it doesn't. Europe has an extremely high unemployment rate. Also, consider that not all business are high earners and couldn't all afford to pay 100% health insurance. In Sweeden they have free health care, but almost half their paycheck goes to taxes. Consider that all that money has to come from somewhere.

Well since minimum wage jobs are for16 year old kids working a Wendy ot Burger King. They are not ment for raising a family. Never where in the 1st place. Its not my fault if "Poor Joe Bob" cant feed his family. Go to college and get an education like the rest of us. And dont tell me the crap about no being able to afford it. Im gonna use my GI Bill I earned in the military. There are plenty of ways of going to college. I dont think I should have to suffer because lazy bob didnt go to school. An employer should pay you on what you bring to the company. Im sorry but fliping burgers shouldnt get paid $13.00 an hour with benefits.

Eurpoe also has extremely high unemployment. If you think your going to work a minimum wage job for the rest of your life I think your too stupid to do anything else. But if your like most people, you strive for something a little better. This minimum wage increase only helps high school kids and illegals. It destroys small business.

People on fixed incomes are really struggling since wage increases have increased their basic living expenses. It's kind of sad to see the old folks suffer.
