ok so i just had a quiz over this..

So copper is Cu. so you write Cu and the the symbol for Nitrate which is NO3 with a charge of -1.

In the parenthesis, it tells you what charge to use for copper which is 2.

All of have to do is criss cross them.
soo it would be

Cu (N03)2(2 is the subscript cause you need a parthesis b.s it has a nitrate has a subscript of 3)

Cu (NO3)2

The Copper is the cation with a +2 charge.

The Nitrate is the anion and has a -1 charge. So you need two nitrates to balance the formula.
