Petaling Street may have a lot of hotels but most of them (if not, all) are just too old. It's cheap but its most ideal for backpackers. If you want something better, look for hotels on Bukit Bintang. You can find good budget hotels along side well-known names like Westin and Marriot. Plus, you can find better variety than the ones you find on Petaling Street, which is also known as Chinatown. Bukit Bintang is also cleaner.

If going by budget airline then you'll be landing at the Low Cost Terminal. There's a bus that goes to KL Central .Hotels are abound even near the station...but how cheap is cheap. They are budget hotels near most of all the shopping complexes...

Budget Hotels -
Around Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman and Jalan Masjid India.
The rate is lesser than RM60 per day (please check)
They are located near a few LRT stations like Masjid Jamek.

Slighty higher than Budget Hotels-
Hotel located around Jalan Petaling (China Town Street) and Jalan Pudu.
Pudu Bus station is there, but that station is for long distance bus only.

An LRT station is located near Pudu Bus station- Plaza Rakyat station. Use Plaza Rakyat to go to LRT Masjid Jamek and then take a interchange to go to KLCC or MidValey MegaMall.

Times Square shopping centre and Bintang Walk are within the walking distance from Pudu Bus station.
