It depends what the succulent is planted in. Potting soil, sand or a mix of both? Also if it is closed bottom container or does it have drainage hole(s). With drainage holes: If it is regular potting soil or a mix let it dry out completely before watering again, allow all excess water to drain away before placing in a saucer. if it is planted in sandy soil only, you follow the same steps but you may have to water a LITTLE bit more frequently. Without drainage holes: water when soil or sand is completely dry but add only small amounts of water a bit at a time until the soil or sand is just moist. Succulents tend to rot if they are sitting in too much moisture for too much time and tend to wrinkle or shrivel if kept dry for a long period of time. The frequency that you water depends on the time of year and the temperature of your home. Houses that have air conditioning and central heat through forced air tend to be drier, which sucks the moisture out of the plants and their soil. Plants usually need less water during the winter months. Hope that helps.

Put your finger in the soil and if its dry then water it. They store water in their leaves and their stem.
