Your question is one of the greatest posed in today's world, not just in America.
Why? Because the first step does not begin on the outer but rather on the inner. Each has to start within him- or herself and by following the inner nudges that prompt you to see what you feel, do or say, and that leaves you feeling or knowing that something is wrong and needs attending to.
From this the real work begins and is an extremely deep and slow-going process and has to be in order to begin clearing the inner baggage. This can take an entire lifetime but does not have to be done alone, nor does this imply that life would have to become glib. Only that each individual has become a student of life.
The next phase from there entails working through this same process with family members: again an extremely difficult and slow process.
Now, multiply this sort of work many times and you begin to see improvements -- because now you have a collective of individuals and not simply a herd comprised of individuals whose consensus is based upon an outside way of living and being.
However, should things reach critical mass, Nature has a way of adjusting this -- through revolutions, wars, famines, diseases, environmental catastrophes.
This planet has its own consciousness and does adjust itself to the thought forms and actions that individuals inflict upon it. The things I listed above are but the Earth's own immune system kicking in to heal itself.

Unfortunately this problem is like a bottomless barrel , you can scream , you can invest billions in advertisement for the good , you can go in a crusade of social reform , you can change the top seat in the country and still not be able to accomplish any thing seriously , and is because there are only 350,000 million brains ,and each one has its own personal agenda, fear , hopes ,anger and all sort of human emotions that prevents from folowing any one ideology it doesn't mater how good it is , does why there are so many religion denominations , each one professes is better than the other one , consequently the effort is a waist of energy , the best thing for every one to do is follow at least a fair moral behavior , like they say " Don't do unto others .. what you don't want them to do to you ".

Well, you could have been on to something, but you took a side. Blame Bush. How about blaming Islam? How about blaming the media. We do need to get together, behind our military and send an all out message to Islam that we are America and we won't give in to them or anyone else. Our separation and in-fighting has caused many soldiers to die that would not have if we were 100% behind them. Our constant beating up Bush gives Islam incentive to keep coming.
Everyone look around you. If there is someone verbally bashing the war or Bush. Slap them.

We should not fail to see the mighty positive aspect...
Freedom of speech is affordable only in place where the society has inner strength. There is a price to pay, and a rich benefit to reap too. America will sustain any amount of criticism.. see most of it is from within. It should be viewed as a strength, irrespective of whether most of the criticisms are tenable or not. Most countries would behead such critics !

I think the Prozac wore off.
What the hell is all this abuse of which you speak?
Interesting that you find the 911 incineration of a few thousand people " immoral and PRACTICALLY unforgivable". Are you Islamic, by chance?
Bush didn't "take the White House by storm" as you exclaim so hysterically; HE WAS ELECTED !!!!!!!!
Move back to the Peninsula if you can't handle liberty.

Each on of the Americans should think beyond themselves. It is through coming in the other person's shoes that we can realize the other person's feelings as the main cause for all the hatred is less regard for the pther person's feelings
