The ones the profressionals use are made from wood, usually silver ash or white ash. You could say it has a handle and a barrell but its basically just a piece of wood going from thin to thick. A metal bat has pretty much wat u said above. It may have a shock resistance piece on the end. It may be two piece (eg. stealth and connection). This is where two pieces are joined just past the handle to reduce shock and hopefully make the ball go further when hit. But that's basically it...

Luke is right on with his answer. Bats are milled (carved) out of a single piece of wood on a lathe. But, you may hear people talk about the different locations on a bat almost as if they were separate pieces. The first twelve inches or so is the thinnest portion and is called the Handle. The flared end of the Handle is the Knob. The main portion (and preferred hitting area) is the Barrel. This is also where you will find the Label which is carved into the bat and describes the bat and the manufacturer. The end of the bat is often referred to as the End (but you would not refer to the Knob as the End) and in an effort to make the bat lighter (and easier to swing and control) the End is sometimes hollowed out in a Cup shape.

a REAL baseball bat (i.e. wood) doesn't have any parts. It's just a single piece of wood, typically ash these days.
