It depends on the discipline. For jumping: Irish Sport Horses (irish draft/thoroughbred X) because of their amazing talant for jumping anything, easy tempermant and they're gorgeous. For almost all western: the Quarter Horse. They are easy-going, fast, and very strong (also for ranchwork). For dressage: Warmbloods hands-down. They have tons of power, "reach" and flexibility. Most are fairly laid-back, althogh there are exceptions in breeds. No matter what horse you get, make sure it is sound--physically and mentally--and likes the work that you want to do with it.

I think that the Quarter Horse, American Paint Horse and the Appaloosa's are the best. All 3 breeds are very versatile. They can do it all from jumping to speed events. I have seen an Appy jump a 6 foot jump. Paints have beautiful color just like App's. I long to have a Paint mare that is a tovero and a buckskin color.

Well, I've owned an American Saddlebred, and I wasn't too thrilled by the whole experience. They are too high strung and take a lot of training in general. With that said, I really wish I would have bought a Quarter Horse or Appy or Paint :] All of my friends have those breeds, and they are wonderful horses that can be ridden in multiple disciplines.

The Ahkal-Teke. These are a desert horse with a pure bloodline that goes back thousands of years ( almost as old as the Arabian ) They are currently being used by the Nez Perce in a breeding program to create a " Nez Perce Horse " ( since their ancestors created the appaloosa )

Appaloosas, because of their coats. Their so beautiful.
But the best breed would be of course a Quarter Horse. A Quarter horse, I belive is best for their training. (That's what I've heard).

As I said in a earlier question:

I love thoroughbreds. They are so athletic, tall and handsome with beautifully defined heads. But more then anything, I love the fire in their eyes and the undying spirit in their souls. With every step they seem so confident and posed, like they know they're gorgeous. I find it amazing that animals of such beauty and spirit interact with humans at all. Thoroughbreds are also amazing riding horses once they learn to trust humans.

Lippizaners! I used to ride an ex- barnum n baileys circus lippizaner named Charro. He was huge!! Riding him bareback was like sitting on a couch. He was so sweet, gentle, aware of everything, and just laid back. And he really minded me very well. Miss that horse, but moved away from where he stayed so I don't see him anymore. :(

I think one good breed is a mixture of Arab and Quarterhorse. It has the spunk of an Arab and it is strong . Often has good smooth gaits. Pretty faces.
