I was having problems with my battery keeping a charge and so I bought a new one. I had already been having problems with a belt making a squealing noise before this. And one day it broke. I had it replaced , but now it is squealing again and now the new battery is not keeping a charge. Anyone know what this might mean? Any help is greatly appreciated.

From your description , it looks like the alternator pulley is stalling or freezing. When a pulley freezes, it creates a squelling sound. This is because of the friction between the pulley and the belt. When this happens, the alternator does not rotate well and thus do not charge. So you might want to have this check. It might be that your alternator is busted.

Sounds like the alternator isn't charging the battery. Replace the alternator.

if your belt is sqeeling then it is slipping and will not permit battery to charge.

you need to have the belt retighten.

to check your alternator if no charge light is on when running indicates probably your alternator is ok but you can disconnect the battery while the car is running and the car should keep on running if the alternator is good.

if your battery is dead every morning then your alternator is leaking current(defective)

It sounds like the bearing in your alternator is going. Take it to Autozone, or in fact, just drive the whole vehicle there. They will be able to test it on or off the car for free.

Replace the Alternator! There is apparently a bad bearing in it and it is not functioning properly.
