Before I actually state my question, I want to state the fact that I do not want a doctors opinion (and yes, I have seen and heard a few), and I do not a womans opinion, as well as any man that has not had a vasectomy. I would like answers ONLY from men that have had a vasectomy.

I am shecudled to have a vasectomy in about 15 days. I really want and have wanted this prodeducre for years, but I am somewhat nervous. I am usually not afraid of needles but since this is going to be a local anesthetic procedure, I'm somewhat worried about what type of pain I will be feeling. I was just wondering how bad this type of operation hurts (I just want to KNOW), as well as what the (short) recovery was like.

Once again, I only want the statements and opinions of men who have had a vasectomy done.

I almost forgot, if you would like a violation, please do not answer the question and instead put something stupid. All stupid/ignorant/hate filled comments will be reported.

I had a vasectomy almost ten years ago, so here's my story.

The procedure itself was short and simple. The injection of the local anaesthetic was the worst part, because it felt so COLD going into the body, and I could feel the wave of cold (and then numbness) moving through my testicles. After that it was pretty straightforward; I could feel some pressure and pulling as they moved everything around to make the incisions, but it wasn't especially painful. I remember feeling more on my right side than on my left, which may be that they got the anaesthetic in a better spot on my left.

I had the procedure in the afternoon, and that evening I sat on the couch with an icepack, a cold beer, and hot salsa. (Hot peppers cause the body to release endorphins, which are natural pain killers.) They specifically warned me not to use Advil or aspirin as these can keep the blood from clotting; I think I took a couple of Tylenol that night.

The question you don't ask but want to know: how long till you can try it out? There's a two-part answer. The first part is that you will probably remain fertile for a week or so after the procedure, because there will be viable sperm in your body. Your doctor will tell you when to come in for a sperm sample; mine told me to be tested after ten ejaculations. Until you get a clear negative test, though, continue to use whatever birth control method you prefer.

The second part, of course, is that my doctor told me I could resume sexual activity "as soon as you're no longer in so much discomfort that you don't feel like it." My wife asked a bunch of her friends whose husbands had already had vasectomies, and the stock answer was "three days." For me it was the night of the following day. But we kept it gentle to avoid pulling out any stitches.

The BEST thing about it is that all sex is safe sex (well, assuming a monogamous relationship). There has been no loss in sensation during arousal, stimulation or climax; there is no change in the look, feel, or (I'm told) taste -- it's just that our youngest child will never have a little brother or sister. I still say that my vasectomy is the second-best thing that ever happened to my sex life, after meeting the woman I married. If you know you're through having kids, it's highly recommended.

I had one about 9 years ago. The initial pain was not too bad. I think the next few days were worse. There was some swelling, and pain for about 2-3 days. I had it done on a Friday, and tried to go back to work on Monday, I could not make the whole day, I had to go home (that job required me to be on my feet all day long, I was uncomfortable standing) . After that it was fine. I had to wear a jock strap for a few more days, then I was fine. Probably the worst part was the itching from the hair growing back. I think it was a good decision to have one. I hope this helps you out some.

Since you are having this procedure under local the initial pain should be minimal. However, if you take the pain medication as prescribed there really should be only a mild discomfort for a short period of time. Make sure you take it easy immediately after the procedure. Make sure your clothing is not too tight or restrictive. You want the area to heal without any complications or delays. Good luck!

Anywhere form mild soreness to scalding pain. You get over it.
If no complications, you're up and about in a couple of days. I'd say two weeks for full. This all depends on you. Having a good POSITIVE attitude helps both lessen the pain and speed the recovery.

I have had one. I drove myself to the office on a Friday morning and had it done with local anesthetic (an injection of numbing medication). I drove myself home. I spent the rest of the day on the couch (with ice)-on the advise of my experienced friends. The next day I 'gingerly' strolled around at a fair without problems. I avoided strenuous activity for a week.
Now I have friends with similar experiences and friends with different experiences. Most were based on anxiety.
My wife made it all up to me.

The local they give you is no worse than getting a shot at the dentist. The worse part is the healing, I would suggest that if you are getting it done do it in the winter and cooler months vs the hot summer months. Relax afterwards for a few days and you will be fine.

OK. I haven't, but my brother did. Apparently a bit of pain during the procedure, some mild pain and a bit "sensitive" for a couple of days (not sure if he was using pain killers). After that, no problem.

Speaking for my husband ,he said it hurt very little in the office .
and at home he kept ice bag on to keep swelling down ,he can only remember being bothered about 4 days .
.And don't forget to go back and be checked later to be sure it worked .If you are just getting tied .
Don't lift anything for a couple of weeks .You won't regret it .
Good Luck
