Most of the time I'll leave a buck and it doesn't bother me, I'd just like to hear what you think. This question came to my mind when I found this little casual Japanese/sushi place where you walk up to the counter to order and pay right away, then go to the self serve tea, soup, and silverware area. They bring the food to you and clear your table afterwards.

I would tip. They're giving some form of service. If it's only a dollar or two, what does it hurt? If you go there often, they get to know you and give you better service. It has ALWAYS worked out for me but I also love to eat:)

Usually, you tip 15% minimum at any restaurant... At the place where you were they still did bring the food to your table and as you mentionned they clear the table... therefore it's sort of like a buffet... You still have to tip the waitress who serves you ( water, bread, wine...etc.). In a good restaurant you tip accordingly to the service you get so it happens that you give more than 15%, but in a buffet (let's say), one dollar is a tad cheap ( unless you are alone for lunch and it does't cost more than 10-15%). Let's say you were two and went to a sushi bar and the bill is.. 27.00$, I'd leave at least 3$... But that's me. Hope it helps!

i always tip..... what would a couple of dollars be worth for most of us if we can afford to go to a restaurant to get our meals....not that much, i don't think. but these people who work hard, serve you and clean the table after you.....yet barely have enough to survive. they do not even make minimum wage and depend on tips to make it.

not everyone has the education and experience to work in big corporations and make big bucks. still, there are some who are in the bottom of the chain that barely make it with what they earn.

the little you give them makes a difference whether they and their family had food for dinner that night.

Sometimes I tip, it's usually at the Asian restuarants because they make your food so quick! It's like 5 minutes, so I'll normally throw in a couple bucks or whatever change I have into their TIP jar.

yea id tip. the noodle company works like that. i mean not tons or anything becuase they dont keep ccoming back and bringing you things like if you need another fork or somthing you have to go ask, but i tip because there is still someone clearing the table and making sure your order gets to you. i think about it like if i were working there what would i want.

YES, the person who brought you the food is called your SERVER !!
Servers work for TIPS !!
If you did not have to shop for, prepare, or clean-up after your meal is a couple of extra dollars really gonna kill you ?
If so then go to the grocery store, you money will go much further there.

I would tip the person that brings the food out as long as they are kind and if I needed anything else they would bring it to me otherwise I would not

I would tip the person who brought the food to my table because after you leave there the ones who pick it up.

I have only tipped the kid when he or she helps me out in the enjoying of the meal. That goes for every place I go.

Tip for gratitude, not crappy service.
