The write speed is controlled by the DVD writing software. You should have the option to change it in that program. If the program doesn't recognize that you have a faster DVD drive, check to make sure you have the right drivers installed.

the write speed for any cd/dvd burn can always b changed within the software that you are using to burn a cd and or dvd.
