I get this all the time... I usually ask 'why should I?' then I would get some lame response like ... 'Its good to smile sometime' or 'you don't need to have a reason' .... and then I would say
'Do I.... look stupid?..... then why would I be smiling for no reason?'
I guarantee they will never tell anyone to smile again.

Only my ex-manager were telling that me but I couldn't smile, I was too tired. Just try to smile if you can, or explain the reason why you can't:)

Either I laugh or something because I didn't realize I had a serious face on, or I shoot them a look if I'm in a bad mood and don't want to smile.

I tell them, "I don't have one today, so why don't you give me one of yours?" By the time they figure that out I've usually left the building. When will people learn that you can't elevate a bad mood by telling someone to cheer up? BTW, I LOVE Cap'n Jack Sparrow!

first, say "thank you"
then, give them a reason why you looked like that
may you are sad or there's a problem in your life
u mustn't tell about everything
then, if its truly your character
tell the truth and asking your friend to receive you just the way you are
you know, for a long time ago my friend told me about the same case
and day by day they understood
because people in this world can't feel happiness everyday or sadness everyday
just keep positive thinking

Depends on who it is. If its my mom or dad, I smile and I like it. If its a friend, I'll usually tell them to kiss my *** or just flip them off.
