First don't sign and walk away. Talk to an Attorney. All of them will give you a free first consultation. About 30 minutes worth of their time. Most state have some sort of legal assistance at little or reduced cost. Check the blue pages in the telephone book. You can also call the Attorney Generals office in your state. They will point you in the right direction. YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO SELL HIM THE PORTION THAT BELONGS TO YOU. Again, contact an Attorney. Many will take the case if they know you will be getting money in the future.

It would partially depend on the state you live in, Is it a community property state? You should get half the value of the property. If he isn't willing to buy out your half of the home then try to find a lawyer who will give you a free initial consultation or charge you a percentage of what money they win for you. Either way you shouldn't walk away empty handed. Assuming ther was no pre-nup or other agreement that he keeps everything if a divorce occurs.

Get a credit card and put the retainer for the lawyer on that. Sure you'll be spending money, but then you won't loose everything. 10 years, you are entitled to HALF maybe more! Let the lawyer figure this out.

If it was a b/f, you will lose if you just walk away. If it was your spouse, you're prob going to give up half anyway. Do you want to fool with the hassle? If not, walk away. If you want to get your money back, make him either buy you out or sell the house and give you the money back.

Find a lawyer that will get paid only if you win the case. Don't just hand over an investment!! If he doesn't work why should he get everything? Fight for what is yours and you will be grateful you did. Otherwise you will always think what if......
