i own a repair shop, and if your not going to paint the whole thing,,its better to take the gas cap off of it,,and let a good paint store do a paint match with there computer,,if you buy an exact color from the color code,,it will look newer than the rest of it,,doing it with them shooting the color off a part of the truck will match it up,,because some of it will be faded out,,and they can match it to that,,good luck hope this help,s.

the paint code can be in a variety of places, but you will usually find it on a metal plate or paper lable, positions vary, two most common locations are on the grille under the hood, and also in the door frame passenger side, the code usually consists of 2-3 letters or numbers, possibly mixed, for instance the code for ford diamond white is D or 0071, hope this helps. ps as dodge man quite correctly stated, unless its a complete respray, take either a part of the car or the vehicle to a local autopaint dealer and have them match the color with the vehicle, as weather and acid rain will have faded the originally paint work considerably, which if you buy a supposed matching spray can from an auto accessory shop it will not match, due to fading, this will cause an effect called metamarism, whereby, even if the original paint work is in good condition, putting new paint onto it will show up as patchy, especially if the colour is red, notorious for metamarism under different types of street lighting.

Sometimes it's on the inside of the door panel, probably on the drivers' side.
