My son is almost a year old and his crib just looks uncomfortable with the firm mattress, sheet and small blanket. What can I do to make it more cozy for him? Is a small pillow okay as long as it is not big enough to give him leverage to climb out of his crib?

It's not recommended to put pillows or stuffed animals into a crib with a sleeping baby. I have heard that they can suffocate, but I have also heard because of the germs and allergens that cling to pillows and stuffed animals. I would say maybe a small pillow without a pillow case would be ok. He is a year old, and I am sure if he rolled where he couldn't breathe, he would turn over.

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends against using a pillow in the crib due to the increased chance of SIDS, and also since it can aggravate any possible allergies.
Dr. Judith Owens, a pediatric sleep expert, says that pillows aren't recommended until the child is at least 2 and out of the crib.
All in all, your little guy isn't uncomfortable. He's been sleeping without a pillow for this long, so he's used to sleeping strictly on the mattress. He'll be perfectly fine (and possibly safer) without it.

NO not even at a year old. no pillows. Alway better safe than sorry! He is fine he dont need pillows cause hes never had them and he could care less if the crib looks cozy. I know you just want him to be as cozy as can be and that is being a good mom wanting the best for him. But no pillows

I wouldn't put any pillows in a baby crib. The pillows could smother the baby. Just a blanket. The mattress on the baby bed is so firm and comfortable for the baby that she/he does not need a pillow.

My son was allowed a pillow at 18 months. Reason? He was ready. When he sleeps in my bed he ALWAYS uses the pillow. I seen him wake up off the pillow just to put his head back on the pillow. If they know what a pillow is for, and just seem "ready" I don't see a problem. The one in his crib is really flat though.

Well, everyone else is saying no, but I say if he's almost a year, then yes. I got my kids a travel sized pillow with a travel sized case and just put it in there with them at about 12 months. I even asked my pediatrician and he said that it was fine... as long as he can move around on his own and stand up in his crib there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with it to me.

My 15 month previous has a pillow and he or she does basically high-quality. She continually beloved being higher as a touch one so we were given her a pillow after she became a million. I requested my time-honored practitioner first, and he suggested get her a flat agency pillow. I did and he or she loves it she walks round with it lots and lays her crammed animals on it too lol. The flat ones are often the most inexpensive pillows i have come to be certain.

No. Not yet. Anyway, he's already used to sleeping without a pillow so it's probably quite comfortable for him. I don't remember when we let our kids have pillows but I think it was around 2 1/2 or 3.

NOOOO do not put pillows in a crib. I think when they hit one year old the risk of SIDS goes down but i would wait. They say no pillows or stuffed animals in cribs.

Never put a pillow in the crib with your baby he can still die of sids! You shouldn't even be putting a blanket in there with him.. Dress him in warm pjs to go to bed and leave it at that.
