I keep getting a very small but noticeable sharp pain in my left side. I am on my period but I don't normally get pains like this. What could it be?

It could be cystic ovaries. They can be caused by different things, but a common cause is Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. It is a hormonal imbalance caused by a form of insulin resistance. It can lead to diabetes and/or infertility, so if you have any other symptoms (see link below), you'll want to have it checked out by a gynocologist or endocrinologist.
