The answer is Penelope, wife of Ulysses. And the whole story is this. Ulysses had been away from home for 20 years, and suitor came to his palace asing to marry Penelope, his wife, and rule the country in Ulysses' stead. Penelope couldn't get out of this situation, so she promissed them that she would choose one of them when she would finish weaving whatever she was weaving at that point. But in order to gain time, because she loved Ulysses and didn't want to marry another man, at night she unwove what she wove during the day. So this way she fooled them for a long time

Penelope, wife of Ulysses, King of Ithaca. He was a long time coming home from the Trojan War--20 years. Also, the man was not her lover, but one of many suitors, who also thought Ulysses would never return. In the followup, Ulysses and their son Telemachus slew all the suitors.
