Recently, I was attacked by a pitbull.
The owner of the pitbull owns a total of 2 pitbulls, which is illegal in Ohio.
He also does not have proper insurance coverage for the dogs, so he was fined $3,000 by the dog warden.
It was just brought to my attention that the dog warden tested the dogs for rabies and isn't going to put the dogs to sleep unless they test positive. Is this legal?
I would think that by law, the dog should have to be put down because it is a threat to humans.
Anyone familiar with pitbulls laws or vicious dog laws in general?

The dog owner is scared I will press charges, so he switched the dogs collars and is trying to find a way to send the dog that bit me out of state.

I would imagine it depends on the circumstances of the attack whether they would opt for euthanizing of the dog. The laws vary from town to town, county to county.state to state. Regardless of whether they put the dog "down" You do have legal recourse in the form a of a civil suit against the owner. Contact a lawyer.
Take pictures, get copies of hospital or Doctors records.A copy of the complaint. A copy of the wardens decision. Document everything. Try to get pictures of the dog. Regardless of what the Dog warden will do..A lawyer will make sure at the very least you are compensated for your injury's etc.
