my friend is a 16 year old diabetic. Recently, her hair has become very very thin, and she tells me how she pulls out gray hair. Does anyone have any theories on what could be the cause of this? Does it maybe have something to do with her diabetes or is it something completely different? Thanks for any input!

It could be from a combination of things, but it sounds like it is in fact, the diabetes (or the medicine) that's causing your friend's hair to thin at such an early age.

When women get gray hair young it usally means it runs in the family, my grandmother started getting gray hair when she was 16, and one of her daughters (my aunt) also did.
