A lot of people look at the interaction between Mercutio and Romeo and think that he was attracted to Romeo. That is a complete misinterpretation of what Shakespeare was writing, but people will always misinterpret things.

In the latest version (with Leonardo DiCaprio as Romeo), Mercutio dressed in drag to a party (hilarious) and in the play some of his actions suggested that he possibly was.

This opinion is more than idiotic! Mercutio is poetic becouse he is the only one there who has knowledge of mysterious things, he is said to be an initiate! He talks of queen Mab and The Old Ways and he is the phylosophic one! I have never heard of this ideea, that he is considered to be gay! He just knows more than others, being poetic at that time was a sign of erudition! Poor Shakespeare, if only he had known!

Have you seen the modern Romeo and Juliet? In that one, he is a black guy in a sparkly dress...that sounds like a homosexual to me. But that's just "my" theory. Also, the way he talks is kinda funny...oddly poetic...as if it's out of a shakespearean play (hmmm?)
