hi, i dont own a turtle, but my uncle skeeter (his real name's mike, but we calls him skeeter on account of he's real allergic to mosquiter bites) does and he don"t have AOL access but has a question. about two months ago his big ground turtle shelton went missing on his property (he has the run of it), and he didn't come back for lettice or carrots or nothing. not even when we rung the dinner bell.

i was over visiting yesterday, and poking around the crick looking for crawdads i found shelton's shell, but it was plum empty! what's going on here? uncle skeeter says sheltons ain't never done that before, and its mighty weird. winter's been mild so far, but we're worried that without his shell, sheltons going to get mighty cold wandering around outside on his own.

should we put the shell back out for him, and maybe some little sweaters? (my aunt can nit real good). thanks.

To find Shelden you should look in the ground. When me turtle went missing in my back yard we found that he had berried himself in the ground for warmth. Hope i helped!

kall your vet and ask if thats common, my guess is that he out grew his shell and tried to find a new one, then he couldnt so he did something to help him stay warm cuz you took the shell away. leave the shelll out there and it kinda depends on his age... if hes an old turtle, the sad facts is, he could have went outside to die/ he froze and an animal ate him... i hope you find him alive and well!

I think that you should ask a vet what to do or what could have happened. you can even use a pet pshyic if you have a pitucre of him.
Good luck.

If you found his shell he is dead. Their shells grow with them.
