I would gather that Phoenix is very different than MA. You really don't want to hang out in our downtown, it's not much to look at. Phoenix is not like most major cities, it's hardly a city at all, more like a giant cluster of suburbs. And as for malls, there is one every 5 feet. You don't need to drive more than 3 minutes to get to any store you ever wanted to go to. Most people are friendly, except when they drive, and they drive fast!! Arizona is a little boring to me. There are lots of events all around town, but they all seem to be a big letdown when you get there. There are tons of outdoor activities to keep you busy all winter, and places a short drive north to visit all summer when it's 150 degrees. The housing market is going to be relative to what you are used to. For me, you get very little land for you $. Don't expect to have a nice backyard to play ball in, or enough space to have any privacy. Your neighbors are very close by, so hope you like them.

So, my opinion is Phoenix is just ok, I don't love it, and I don't hate it.

depends on where you move: if you move the main cities like phoenix or tucson, there are houses everywhere and most likely you will be within 10 from a mall. i live in phoenix and I live 10-15 minutes away from two malls, and 20 minutes from another mall and a shopping center that is kind of like a mall but spread out. Some people are friendly and then there are just the a**holes. downtown isnt the best place to live. look for the suburbs like chandler gilbert which is more southern while there is scottsdale(the rich area) and glendale, and then there are the far suburbs like buckeye avondale and ive heard those are pretty nice but far. Weather is fine except for the summer. Im used to the deathly heat , (im surprised i dont faint everyday because i never drink water). main attraction of arizona, c'mon, its the grand canyon. some places are quiet like the small towns, bigger cities are pretty active. is it a good place to live? there are better places to live, prettier places, cooler places. but a lot of people move here to get away from the cold and snow and they end up loving it here.

It is kind of a spread-out place. Downtown phoenix is very quiet and you don't see people there much at all at night. Cities like Tempe and Chandler are more residential and have many nice houses. They are all spread-out and have stretches of bare lands and terrain. Phoenix doesn't have a metropolitan atmosphere though and is not like a metropolitan city. It is more like a spread-out place with people driving most of the time. There are maybe just 4-5 malls in Phoenix, not many.. People are quite honest, nice and caring. They would ask you to sit down if they see you standing on the bus or offer you seats. One time, someone got hit or dropped something, all the people at the bus-stop went over there and tried to help. Some people would look at you if you appear really different or something on the bus.. Houses are not as expensive as those in cities like LA or SF. Some areas can be quiet. There are different cities all kind of spread out like Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa, Tempe, Scottsdale.... It can be a nice place to live... It gets dark at around 6pm here in the winter..

Flagstaff area is nice, lots of mountains and forests, and the city has most amenities. Phoenix is one big smog pit, been there several times, and have never been impressed. Every time it was so smoggy you could barely see the surrounding mountains. Certainly if you live outside the main cities--Phoenix metro, Tuscon and Flagstaff, you won;t have easy access to malls (what malls!) but I bet many of the smaller communities are nice places to live. Phoenix is the fifth largest city in the US, by the way, after NYC, LA, Chicago, and Houston, having recently surpassed Philadelphia. So if you like big cities, there is one for you!
