They DID have a burger on their menu. It WAS called the Bell Beefer. My cousin used to order them all the time. They were good. I was just thinking about that the other day. No one believes me either except old schoolers. Anyone under 30 doesn't remember it.

General operations
Taco Bell encourages its diners to "think outside the bun" by visiting its restaurants instead of hamburger-selling fast food chains such as McDonald's and Burger King. Previously, Taco Bell had a menu item called the "Bell Beefer" (bun, taco spiced beef, lettuce, cheese and tomato) in the mid to late 1980s designed to compete with burger chains. The product did not prove popular and was discontinued. The "Bell Beefer" was also put into the Australian market as the "Big Bell" burger.

This says it was in the 80s but I thought it was earlier.

My husband has worked for Taco Bell since the 70s and they never had a burger on the menu. In fact, the whole idea in developing Taco Bell was to get away from burgers.

I worked at two different Taco Bells in Maryland when I was a teenager (1990-91). We never had the burger. The "meat" came in big plastic bags and the primary ingredient in it was oats. But whatever... I liked it then, I like it now, and I would try a Taco Bell burger if I saw one on the menu!

Yes, I loved those too. If you live in California there is a chain called Del Taco. They don't have it on the menu but they will make a Taco on a Bun for you if you ask. I thinks its because they sell burgers as well as mexican food.

Hey it sounds easy enough to make at home...You can get the Taco Bell seasoning at the grocery store now. mmmmm now I'm hungry and it's all your fault : D

Yes, I have eaten them many years ago. I remember them well as I had a friend who ALWAYS ordered them whenever we went there.
