my car was stolen today and not taken from the city the i live in. is this auto theft or grand theft auto? what is the difference between the two?

they are the same thing just worded differently it depends on where you are from.

Auto Theft is a Canadian term, while Grand Theft Auto is an American Term, they both mean the same thing.

auto theft is stealing any vehicle,,and if its not a new one,,but a real old one it might be considered auto theft,,anything over a thousand bucks worth ,and its considered to be grand theft auto,this can go all the way up to a car that s worth a hundred thousand bucks,,that's why its called grand theft auto,,because of the value of the car,,good luck hope this help,s.

The difference is in the value of the auto. You would need to check with your local police to find out the limitations.
