The age range on the nipples is a guide - when the baby seems not to be getting the milk/formula fast enough i.e. taking the entire plastic in his/her mouth so that it is kind of "collapsing" you probably want to go to stage two. This will allow a faster flow. Most likely you do not need to buy new bottles - no experience with this brand but with others i.e. avent you can just change nipples. However as the baby drinks more at one sitting you may need to invest in bigger bottles i.e. 8oz instead of 4oz.
In terms of quantity each baby is different. As a guide a 3 month old generaly drinks 4-6 oz every three - four hours. With a longer period over night. However, some may take 3 oz every 3 hours or 6 oz every 4 - 5 hours. Look for at least six heavy wet diapers per day. Also, look for bowel movements but note that some formula fed babies may only have a BM once every 7 days.

Your baby might want to drink a little faster by this age so if he or she is getting frustrated when nursing, switch to stage 2. You can just buy the new nipples and don't have to buy new bottles too. Around 3 months babies usually have around 6 oz at each feeding and drink 24 - 30 oz a day. But quantites vary from baby to baby.

i have the same bottles...continue using stage 1 for while. stage 2 is for when they are older and require milk to come out faster. i also use stage 2 when i put rice cereal in her bottle at night. you can rotate nipples accordingly on all of the bottles. my daughter was a very good eater from day one. she was having about 32-36 ounces at 3 months!!

My son still uses stage one nipples on the playtex bottles and thats at 8 months old....it really depends on your little ones preference. Some babies just dont care for the faster flow of the next stages. Check babycenter.com for references on the formula question. Babies dont have a standard that they should eat just a range that they should fall into. If your baby is having a growth spurt he may eat more, just like if theyre steady or not feeling well they may eat less. My little one ate 50 ounces of formula in a day on occasion before he was on solids, you just couldnt fill him up. good luck

You propose the "usual" technique this is easily no longer "usual?" :P Yeah i think of the U. S. remains caught with it, even nevertheless innovations like a million/2 and 3/4 are fairly everyday, no longer constrained to the device of length. :) seventy 5 centimeters = 3/4 of a meter. :)
