I was in almost the same position 3 months ago. I was dilated to 3 cm and 80% effaced and remained like that for almost 3 weeks. My doctor also stripped my membranes and had some cramping, but still no contractions. Three days later I woke up to realise that my water had broken so I got my husband and my boys up so I could get to the hospital. Well, I still did not go into labour and my doctor decided to induce my labour that night and I had my baby girl in the wee hours of the morning. I think that instead of having the stripping done, the doctor should have you induced as I totally agree with you that the stripping is painful. I don't think dilation and effacement is a reliable predictor of when you are going to have your baby. I had also tried spicy food, and lots of walking etc. and nothing got my labour started.
Good luck and hopefully everything works out well for you.

Ok let me put it this way, SEX! that's what you need to do. Don't give up just keep on walking at least for an hour and stop eating spicy food because it's not going to help you get contractions instead it's not recomended because of the baby. Tonight, take a really good warm shower and let the water fall on your stomach and back as much as you can or until the water is still warm. Try to relax because the more you stress the worst it'll be, in my case doctors even got to think that I was over due, they called me to the hospital for a stress test and they didn't understand why if the monitors showed that I was having contractions, why I wasn't feeling any pain; they send me home and that same night after midnight at 2:45 am I started having contractions and then went in to labor. Please stop trying so many things you never know what could happen, remember they come when they want to, don't push it and if doctors feel the need to interfere trust me that they will do it, so once again honey relax if you been waiting for 9 months now, few more days won't kill ya! and remember SEX. take care and good luck sweetie.

Well I am 39 weeks and in the same boat as you, baby is huge i have had my membranes stripped 3 times and I am 4 centimeters and lost my mucus plug, I've had 2 contractions and done every thing you have done, but I was told by my midwife that if I could enjoy sexy with my husband to do that and it will thin me out, and it helped me get to 4 centimeters. So maybe you can try that and if you dilate more maybe the baby will drop and your water might break or some thing. But I really know what your going threw and I hope you have the baby soon, good luck and congrats!

Good luck! You sound just like me and I was dilated for 3 weeks. I was 2 weeks past due and was having back labor for 2 days before my induction date. After they induced me it 17 hrs of painful back labor until they decided to give me a c-section. I would just not happen. My son had other ideas about how it was going to go! And might I add.... He is still stubborn! I hope it happens for you soon. But I tried all that crap they say to do and none of it worked. I even traveled from OH to VA and back all in one day while have contractions. I know how you feel keep up the good work it will be over soon enough. Ask your doctor to set an induction date tomorrow so you have a day to focus on, that will help you get through! Congrats!

Just be thank full you are not having contractions. I was the opposite of you. I had contractions (real ones, not braxton hicks) for 10 days before Maya was born. She was a week late and I had been having contractions every 5 min for 10 days. It was AWFUL. My cervix was shut tight and I was in the OBs office everyday hooked up to the monitors.
anyway, enough about me, every baby picks their own time and way to come. You could sit at 2 cm for weeks. Just try to get some sleep. Sleep as much as possible. You may not think that is great advise now, because you want to see your baby, but a week after your child is born you will understand.

your baby will come when it is ready as long as its in the correct position for birth. walking is the best remedy to get labor going. walk as much as possible and climb stairs. I never did beleive in stripping of the membrane which is very painful. sometimes you can get in to dialating to 3 before contractions get going. I still say walk walk walk and baby will move on down but walk at a brisk pace and do it alot

any time now..... lay off the spicy food though hon, it's going to be a rough ride after the baby's born.
My 3rd was like that - I was dialated for about 2 weeks before she was born. Be patient, your baby will be here soon enough

How frustrating for you! Unfortunately, babies don't come on their own until they are good and ready. There's no magic way to start labor. Having sex sometimes helps (the prostaglandins in the semen soften the cervix). Also you may try nipple stimulation as this can help with contractions.
Good luck!

go eat thai food. I know 5 women plus myself who ate Thai the night before we went into labor. It was at different restaurants but it was Thai food and not really spicy.
there must be something in that food that causes dilation.
Also have sex, even if u don't feel like it.

they will probably induce your labor. I was just the opposite I was having contractions but not dilating. I agree it is painful. have lots of sex tonight, that might help.
