My friend might get a rat and I have a guniea pig so I want to see!

I used to keep rats and a guinea pig and a rabbit in the same cage. They got along fine. There were dietary issues, though; the rabbit wanted to eat all the rat food and the rats wanted to hide all the greens; but they were good friends and slept together.

It is generally not a good idea to mix different species of animals. It's never right to throw two different animals together and expect them to get along. They might not even tolerate each other.

Each animal has it's own special needs and wants, they can't speak each other's language, so there comes the issue of one or the other mistaking body language for something that it was not meant to be and the fight begins.

Each could be territorial of their cage, or their home turf, and that could cause trouble.

If you are going to do it you will have to be prepared for maiming, mauling, death, or maybe an emergency trip to vet for one or the other.

It would be so much better for both pets if you could think like your pet, instead of like a human, and see this from their point-of view.

Lets think, do all humans get along? Depends on the rat and pig.

I have read that they can be territorial. You can put them together but make sure you monitor them and to make sure they don't hurt each other. Never leave them unattended together.
