If you give someone power to do whatever he wants then eventually he will use that power towards selfish ends, even if he originally had good intentions.

When someone comes into a position of power, which is normally limited, they tend to let it go to their head and test their limits.
Absolute power corruption is when the person knows they can do what ever they want and answer to know one.They can do "favors" for others if the price is right and so on and so forth.

just what it says. look at any dictator the world has seen. most of them started out thinking they knew what was best for their people, and it turned into a nightmare because they got a taste of that power and they couldn't bear to let that power go.
