Fred Astaire was known as 'twinkle toes'. His dance style was based in 'Ballroom'. This made his dancing much more stylish and 'on his toes' - hence the nickname.

While Gene Kelly was also an excellent dancer, his dance style was based in 'tap'. Tap dancers are affectionately known as 'cloggers' (after the cumbersome way in which people wearing clogs walk in comparison to those who wear shoes) and such a nickname as 'twinkle toes' was ill-fitting.

Bing Crosby was a singer who could dance a few steps, by comparison to the other two.

Also, Astaire had made his fame some 10 years before Kelly came along (while Astaire had taken a temporary retirement) and filled the void. Astaire soon came back to take back his crown, which he never fully did.

Personally, I prefer to watch Gene Kelly dance.

I would have to guess Gene Kelly, he was a much better dancer than Bing. Loved his "Singing in the Rain" routine.
