I guess time's personification is a popular English idiom, but in Latin, I've never run across an idiom for wasting time like killing it so it's likely not to go back too far.

Its like a physical thing because it is limited. We have just the time before death, which is definite, decided and cant happen anytime.

Hence since we dont know how much time we have, we try to utilize it the best way. For killing time you can do everything except that which fulfill your life's purpose. If you are fulfilling purpose of life then you are not killing time you are utilizing it.

What is the purpose of life (there are a lot of such resolved questions in yahoo answers)

Time is NOT intangible.

Time can be measured, managed, predicted, accelerated, bent, and modified under standard laws of physics.

Never confuse philosophy (burn, waste, etc. are concepts of individual subjectivism) with empirical sciences.

Facts belong here with the sciences; beliefs belong over there with the philosophers and priests.

Time is an illusion of the human experience. In ultimate reality it does not exist at all. Everything is happening simultaneously. It is a concept almost too broad to comprehend in the human perspective.

"time waits for no one and it won't wait for me"---Rolling Stones
you kill time smoking a butt waiting for the bus
you waste time looking for your watch when you're late for the bus
you burn time working for the man before you get on the bus
you spend time with your lady after you get off the bus
why ask why?
get on the bus, you'll figure it out.
check the time schedule.
just don't fall under the bus---it get's too physical.

Just "kill" the mind, and watch the fun !
The awareness will open up in wonderful ways, and then time would either become still or just fly past, entertaining us either way !

killing time is things like watching a spider crawl up the wall, then flicking it back down to the floor and laughing. things like rereading some instruction manual for something you know how to use. its like sharpening every single pencil you can find untill they all have perfect tips. things that have absolutely no meaning, and arent worth doing at all...

WRONG! You are only allotted so much time! We need to spend our time doing things of value. You kill time by not using it to the best of humanities advantage.

Time cannot be saved or spent. It continues no matter what you do. However, you can fill in time with trivial or meaningful activities.
