Help?? What is he saying??

When you invite the guy you are seeing over to your house for the weekend (you live 2 hours away but he has come over before) and he says "Let's play it by ear, I have a feeling I already have plans this weekend, but I don't remember for sure, and I've been accidentally double booking lately, and I have to have my car looked at. But I think I'm free." How would you take that?? Thanks!!

he's giving himself an out. maybe he wants to hang but he doesnt want to be definite just incase something comes up.
