Most companies now had changed AWS to "variable bonus". And employee will only get their "variable bonus" based on the company and personal performance.

It depends on individual company. Some companies take AWS as the bonus for the workers so that the employers can save on the variable bonuses. In this case, the variable bonuses is equivalent to your bonuses. Futhermore it is not compulsory for employers to pay AWS at the end of the year, some companies pay AWS when it is near to the Lunar New Year period and the employers treat it as AWS

Its not a compulsory thing. Always remember that MOM tend to protect employers more than the employees. Then how you think we can attract investors over the years?
