I am guessing your effacement isn't much if they told you 1-2 weeks. That is only a guess and you can go from 10% effacement to 100% in a day.
I was 5cm and 80% effaced before I even went into labor with my second child. These things are so hard to gauge and every woman is different.

Dilitation and effacement are two separate things. You can be 1-2 cm and from 0% effaced all the way to 100% effaced. If the doctor didn't comment on the effacement (comment would have been something like 'the cervix is thinning out'), then it's a safe assumption that your cervix is still thick, meaning you've got some work to do before you'll be having a baby.

You should avoid heavy lifting that far along. You should try to take it easy b/c it sounds like you will be a mommy soon. From personal experiece i went to my obgyn my 38th week on dec. 7th was 2 cm dilated and 50% effaced. My water broke around 12:30 dec.9th around 3 cm dilated and then i had my son at 5:33 pm dec.10th. So it all varies person to person but if you really want to know how far effaced you are call your obgyn and get a checkup to just know for sure. Good luck

I would take a leave from work now; pregnant women are NOT supposed to do any heavy lifting. As for dilation, you know how long it took to get to 2cm. You have to dilate to 10 cm. before your baby will be delivered, providing everything is normal. I'm sure it will be!

the dilatation is how your cervix open it's 0cm. to 10cm. and effacement is the thinning of the cervix 0% to 100% so if your cervix is only 1-2cm. you are just staring labor. SO Good luck.

its been my experience that if the doc said it was ok to go back to work then you can go, dont over do it only do what you think you can handle,,your boss should be understandin, they sometimes dont say anyhting about your efacement i dont know why they just dont. i have five kids and worked but you know what your body can handle you very possibly could not be effaced if you really want to know you should be able to call and ask, they should have charted it if you are
