Try Egypt. There is so much to see, feel, smell and experience. The souks are wonderful places to waste a day on. Try the tea shops away from the tourist venues in Old Cairo. Visit the pyramids. Their size and mass really makes a person feel small, and the achievements by the ancient culture make a person appreciate their skills even more. Take your sweetie on the Nile during an evening cruise. Ever listen to the Adnan during the five prayer times? It's absolutely beautiful. If people plan their trip to the Old Cairo Souk carefully on a Friday morning, the recitation before the Friday prayer is absolutely something they would never forget. Visit the beaches in Alexandria, and go to Luxor to visit the Valley of the Kings, Hatsheput's temple, Karnak Temple and Luxor temple. Take a balloon ride on the West Bank of Luxor, or ride a camel in the desert. I promise, the cost is reasonable, and the trip is unforgetable. I visit every year and this is after my fourth visit. I never feel bored.

Short and Sweet - if Southern Africa is on your list then visit:

Swakopmund, Namibia
Cape Town, South Africa
Durban, South Africa
Maputo, Mozambique
Stone Town, Zanzibar

If you feel you must go North I would suggest Cairo, Egypt or perhaps Tangier, Morocco.

I would approach Central Africa with caution - unless you have an experienced guide or you really need to be there.

I went to South Africa last April and loved the trip. This is what we did. We flew into Paris and had a 14 hour layover. This worked out well allowing us enough time to run around Paris on a "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" type of adventure. Efel tower, boat trip,Arc de Triumph.............then to Johanesberg..Jo'berg. We rented a SUV and off we went to Krueger Park where we spent 4 days/3 nights in the park at one of the camp sights. We loved exploring the park on our own in our own vehicles. The first wild animal we saw was a rhino munching on grasses about 25 yards off the road. Before we knew it a herd of elephants were crossing the road followed by giraffes and some adorable wild boars. We got up early every morning and starting exploring as soon as the guards opened the gates. Yep, you're lockd in the camp grounds and the animals are locked out!!!!!!!!! The guided night safari is a must do when in Krueger Park!!!!!!!!! Hippos, elephants, and even a leopard were spotted by our bus.
4-5 days were enough in the park. We were then off to Sun City. The Lost City is named one of the 10 Places to see before you die..............It was spectacular!!! All the emenities a person could ever need, every activity...........golf, swimming at spectacular wave pool beach setting that makes you feel like you're by the ocean... high flying cabel rides, casinos, fine dining and a private safari park if you didn't get enough in Krueger Park (we did see a baby rhino nursing when we explored this park, something I'll never forget)... etc.............Sun City is considered the Las Vegas of South Africa.
The last segment of our trip was a week in Cape town. We rented a awesome condo in Camp's Bay. The area has tons to explore. Wineries.........penguine island......Table Top Mountain....Monkey Town....Cape Point.........everyday was an adventure and every sunset was breathtaking............
I would suggest dong a little research because there is so much to do.
Safety...........we always felt safe............but we also avoided the major cities where crime and car jackings are common..

Have fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's a beautiful country!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Africa is a prett politically volatile area... Cameroon and Gabon are a couple of the safer countries. Cameroon's capital is Yaounde, Gabon's is Libreville.

I think the most dangerous nation is Congo (both)- there's a lot of political stuff going on there, dangerous.

I have never been to Ethiopia but I am currently working at the embassy of ethiopia. I have seen many brochers about ethiopia and also planning to go there myself.Although it is an african country it is not deadly hot since its location is high.Anyhow you may get more info from the net.

All areas of the Congo and outer Togo are wonderful places to live. Avoid western Uganda and the lowlands of Nigeria.
