Was the space program worth the money the US spent?

i'm doing a report on this subject and i want to know what y'all think.

was it worth it to goto space even with all the proudects we got from nasa (and the russian space program) like satalite tv, cellphones, GPS, ski boots, MRI coordless tools, ect.

please no yes or no awnsers explain why.

I say no. That's an awful lot of money spent that could have been used in more practical ways. I know space is the final frontier, but we have enough issues on our own planet that we don't need to be messing with others. Maybe the government could fund our education system or something instead of throwing dollars out into the solar system.
