There are various ways of doing it , from the expensive to the very cheap ... all depends how much you want to invest ?
One way that is not too expensive but works ... First check the square area of your ceiling ( I assume is open right now ) then get bundles of R/30 fiberglass insulation that will cover the area involved, fit them between the joist ( check first the space between he floor joist , is it 16" or 18" apart and get the insulation of the correct width ), then get a role of poly and staple it under side so the sheats dont fall off , this is the first part , you can then either install 1/2" drywall but is not too sound proved , go for the drop ceiling fiber tiles with the hanging "T" bars and
"L" bars around the perimeter , the tiles are usually 2'x4' you can also install a fluorescent box ... This will work if you have at least 8' of floor to ceiling space , instead of using wire use very short heavy duty rubber bungy strapings , this will isolate vibration transfer to the calling , you need a little bit of work to maintain a level ceiling and have them almost at all the corners , but it will work .. good luck.

Usually insulation is what does the trick. You can use insulation in between floors. It also cuts down on energy to cool in Fla. too. Other than that they might sell a spray on insulation that cuts down on sound, don't know if it has to be covered or not. Call a construction co. and ask. Doesn't cost to ask.
