Use 9 numbers, each of them only once, 1 through 9, and you had 9 spaces arranged within a square shape, with 3 on top, 3 in the middle and 3 on bottom. 5 is the middle of the center spaces with 4 unfilled spaces surrounding it. finally they must, and I mean MUST, equal 15 in every direction.

I think this should be the answer. There's a method in generating these squares, but when the diagonals have to equal 16.

By the way, in this case, they equal 16 in all directions. I couldn't get it to equal 15.
