Firefox is way better than IE could ever think about being. Firefox has better extensions, more options, and it's open source. At any given time an open source project tends to have three times as many people working on it than are employed by Microsoft. IE has far more security problems and they don't get fixed nearly as fast as the few security problems Firefox has because only the Microsoft employees working on IE can even look at its source code but everyone is free to look through the source code for Firefox and help improve it.

You don't even necessarily need IE to get your updates for whatever Windows OS that you're using. At the end of the month you can download all of the updates at once from http://www.autopatcher.com/ and then install them all at once and it allows you to pick and choose what you install from the update package meaning that you don't need to install the useless WGA spyware if you don't want to. If you would prefer downloading updates as they are released rather than waiting until the end of the month then you can get them using Firefox at http://windowsupdate.62nds.com/.

As far as needing IE to access content on some websites that unnecessarily prohibit your use of an alternative browser there is a plugin for Firefox called User Agent Switcher and you can set Firefox to tell that website that it is IE. In the rare situation where content on a website can't be correctly viewed using Firefox then you can use a Firefox plugin called IE tab to open up IE in a Firefox tab. There's a much wider variety of extensions available for Firefox than there are for IE and the extensions for Firefox cover a wider variety of uses than the extensions available for IE.

Unfortunately IE is so integrated into Windows XP that it cannot be removed entirely without some serious consequences so you'll always be stuck with the IE core unless you want an OS that you can't do anything with. That was a poor decision made by the programmers. None of the reasons that you need the IE core have anything to do with using the Internet. If you have the OS already installed then you won't be able to remove IE to the extent that it could mess anything up. All I have on my computer is the IE core. The IE browser isn't on my computer at all and it all works fine and i don't have to worry about spyware as much.

Well I like both , but i run firefox from a Live DVD called Knoppix Live. It is a Linux based operating system that i run right off the disk. I do not have to install it on the hard drive. You may uninstall IE if you wish but you will not be able to get updates from Microsoft and some site you want downloads from require IE as well. I have heard of people installing both but I have not. I say try it and if you have a problem uninstall it.

you can remove/uninstall internet explorer..

start -> settings -> control panel -> add remove programs
in the add remove windows components tab on the left u should be able to untick internet explorer..

and yes you can install firefox and remove IE without "messing" anything up.

personally i find firefox great for web browsing, although when it comes to specific plugins it sometimes lets me down, some things can only be viewed on IE aswell so i leave both on my system, I just have firefox as my default client, and IE is there if firefox cant do what i want it to do.

i spose lord_diablo_006 u wouldnt have a clue if u could remove IE since u love it so much, if u just read my post u can see u can actually remove it..

Firefox is better. But you still probably want to leave IE installed. You can't download microsoft updates on firefox. And some websites (very few) don't display correctly in firefox and/or let you do downloads. But firefox is definitely better.

i'm employing information superhighway Explorer 7 now and there is no longer something incorrect approximately it. the main mandatory area of this version is that it comes with a Phishing filter out which prevents you from attending to a internet site it relatively is gathering significant tips approximately you, ultimately you're shielded from fraud. i think of Firefox have not got that function of their recent launch. I additionally use Firefox yet no longer normally. i've got faith safer with information superhighway Explorer 7 with the Phishing filter out it relatively is working everytime I get right of entry to diverse internet site. IE7 Phishing filter out slows down somewhat in downloading a cyber web website yet there's no massive handle that.

I used to like Firefox better than IE until IE 7.0 came out. Now I only use IE 7.0.

You can never fully uninstall IE. But you can choose to only use Firefox and ignore IE for the rest of your life if you choose to do so.

Firefox pwns (however I use both).
When installing IE 7, Microsoft gives instructions on how to uninstall. I can infer that it should be safe. I have not tried it, but I think it will revert back to IE 6.
