Do you or does someone you know suffer from frequent, severe migraines? My sweetie gets them all the time, and I feel so bad for him, he can't stand many lights on and he sleeps alot. Any suggestions on how I can soothe his pain, make him feel a little better? I hate seeing him like that. :(

Thought I'd ask here, and I'll ask in the medical category, also. Thanks!

How could I possibly get a thumbs down for this? It's a legit question. Man, people these days! LOL.

I get them occasionally. I take Advil for Migranes and that Head-On stuff that they advertise on TV that you rub on your forehead helps, too. But mainly the only thing I can do is rest until it passes. Hope he feels better soon.

I get constant sinus headaches - the slightest thing can turn them on. If sleeping isn't always an option, then I'd have him start carrying some meds all the time - I now always stick some in my purse.

Also, if they really are that frequent, it's possible they're being triggered by something. Maybe have him go to a doctor and see if he's sensitve to anything specific. That's what I plan on doing soon.

I wish him luck getting rid of them :)

Don't wear perfume. Smells, light, sound sometimes sets off a headache. His vision is probably impaired when he gets one.

There are some great medications for migraines now, there is no reason to suffer constantly. I suggest Midrin. That one was great for mine, but the doctor will choose a medication based on what type of migraine your boyfriend gets based on his description.

Sleep helps a lot, lots of dark and definitely lots of quiet. I'd suggest he go to the Dr. and get some Imitrex. That helps me a lot when I get a migraine but only if you take it at the first sign of one. I've made more than one trip to the hospital for demerol in my day when you think you're pretty much going to die. Hope he feels better!

Excedrin Migraine cuts the severity a lot if it's taken pretty quickly after the first signs (flashing lights for me). Other than that, dark and quiet are the best things.

I was perscribed Naproxen - but is available over the counter in the states as Aleve - it would stop a migraine in its tracks if taken when it first started. Just a thought - different things work for different people.

Does he have sinus trouble as well? If so, they could be sinus-triggered migraines in which case he needs to see an allergist ASAP. There are great meds out there (that don't mess up the rest of your body) that can help no matter what the cause.

Take him to a neurologist. There both medications to PREVENT migraines, and medications to take once the headache starts.

When at home, put a damp rag in the freezer til it is just about frozen. Then apply to his temples or the back of his neck.

Sometimes coffee helps.

It may help him if you give him a neck and head massage. If he is nauseous, it won't work. You can heat a towel in the microwave and put around his neck, too. Keep things as quiet as possible, I have to remind people if I have one and it is getting too loud for me. Ask him to try a Midol product, some guys swear by this. Lots of people take anti-seizure meds and say it helps. Best of luck to you and yours!!
