I have a fender Starcaster. Whenever I play the first 3 or 4 frets of the first 4 strings it makes a very flat noise that doesn't even sound like a note. why is this happening and how can i fix it?

It may be that your frets are too high and you are not pressing the string down far enough.

It's tuned properly? If so. your neck might be slightly warped. If it has a trust rod in the neck, maybe a music store might be able to tweak the neck for you.. Don't do it yourself.. After reading your question again. Maybe the nut is to low or its not tuned to pitch. I can't see how it would be better any higher up the neck if you had that problem on the first 3-4 frets.

maybe you are just muting the strings and you should hold ur fingers down harder to make an actual sound.

rock on!!!!
