I had tons of spyware on my computer and TONS of pop-ups, one of the spyware i had was actually turning off my firewall and i had to keep turning it back on. So i downloaded spybot search and destroy ( http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html ) and it found 22 different spy ware programs on my computer and deleted all of them. As long as you keep it updated (It is completely free) it is really great!

the best way to check if you are still infected is to run and antispyware scan. make sure your anti-spyware is updated and run a complete file scan. if you don't have an antispyware, download a free one, like spybot search and destroy: http://www.2-spyware.com/review-spybot-search-and-destroy.html

also if your computer is infected there should be some symptoms, like computer works very slow, pop-ups show up even when your offline, some sign in a system tray tells you to buy smth, etc.

If I may suggest, go to http://www.download.com and search for a program called Ad-Aware. It cleans off that nasty adware and spyware. Great program. Good luck.

I suggest you use at least 2 Anti-Spyware programs such as these and also I suggest you download and try at least one of the trial programs.
Free ones include Ad-Aware(free version) http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022_4-10045910.html?part=dl-ad-aware&subj=dl&tag=top5
Spybot Search & Destroy http://www.safer-networking.net/en/download/index.html
Windows Defender, acquired through downloading it from www.microsoft.com or using Windows Update.
These are trial versions, if you wanna buy a product it's better to try it first.
AVG Anti-Spyware http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Spyware/3000-8022_4-10610898.html?tag=lst-0-3
Trend Micro Anti-Spyware http://www.download.com/Trend-Micro-Anti-Spyware/3000-8022_4-10440658.html?tag=lst-0-2
Spy Sweeper http://www.download.com/Webroot-Spy-Sweeper/3000-8022_4-10598648.html
Spyware Doctor http://www.download.com/Spyware-Doctor/3000-8022_4-10562289.html
There's also online scanners such as Panda Activescan http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/ActiveScan.htm
Also even after getting a clean record for this I suggest you download Hijack This http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/programs.php#hijackthis and then once you've ran it (you want to just do a scan and save a log file) you can post it at one of these sites for analysis.http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/forum..

Run a "adware" or "spyware terminator" if you've not cleaned it they should be able to.
