The rest of the question: The name of the pope who canonized him? What was he like as a child? What was his family like? Why he was canonized? Why he was demoted from his saint-hood?

Saint Christopher is a saint venerated by Roman Catholics and Orthodox Christians, listed as a martyr killed in the reign of the 3rd century Roman emperor Decius (reigned 249 - 251). He is the patron saint of travelers. The story of this saint's life is astoundingly different, depending upon whether one consults Roman Catholic or Eastern Orthodox church sources.

St. Christopher was never canonized. In the early Church people became known as saints simply because they were popularly believed to be. In 1969 the Church reviewed some of these saints and found a number of them to be based on myth or legend. It was at this time that St. Christopher was demoted because the Church found no evidence that he even existed.

Apparently there was too many Saints so they got rid of some (not joking!). The demoting of Saint Chistopher surprised me the most since so many people world wide have Saint Christopher medals around their necks!
