It is not any different than private, except there will be more kids from different social backgrounds, In private most of the kids come from wealthier families, in public school they come from all social backgrounds poor to rich. Otherwise it is the same. Kids are the same. You'll be just fine in public. But why would you want to change? If you already have friends, and they will probably go to catholic High school, why not go too. The biggest difference about public school is the lack of religion. They are not allowed to discuss religion in public school because of the variety of different people with different beliefs.

Public school kids are not any different from catholic school kids, except maybe some teaching methods are different. Just because you hear some scary things about public schools and their students don't mean they are right. I went to homeschool all of my elementary years and then I decided I wanted to go to public school, I was so nervous and so very scared. But when I got there the first day I met so many people who were very nice. If your a people person like I am you'll make it, and really you wont have anything to worry about. Good Luck!!

almost everybody i know who went to catholic for elementary says that but then when they got to my highschool (public) they said it was really easy to make friends and now they all love it there. its actually not that different. you just dont take religion classes and stuff. its not that bad at public school. ive gone there almost my whole life, and so far i have turned out pretty well, i think. people tend to think that they are two different species, but seriously, theyre all kids who are interested in mostly the same stuff. do whatever feels right, just remember that public school is not in a different universe than catholic school and dont judge ppl by what kind of school they go to. i get sooo mad when ppl do that. theyre like oh, you went to public school, you must be a biatch and a freak and take drugs and smoke but im not like that at alllllllllllllllll so dont judge ppl. :)
oh and also the teaching methods are kinda different but only you know how you will adapt. if you go in 9th grade, it should be easier cause everyone is knew and there will probly be ppl who transfered from private schools there, so they will go through the same thing as you. public schools are not that crazy. keep in mind, its always good to have a new experience. good luck!! :)

Be very happy your parents are supporting you!
I suggest that you sit in on a few classes in the schools you have the option of going to. Talk to a few of the teachers, and a few of the kids if you can. This will let you know if the school is for you or not. View the profiles on myspace of students from that school, see what some of them are like and if you can find someone with similar interests, message them.
It'd be good for you to start out in 9th grade, that way you are new to high school like everyone else.
Kids that transfer from public to private school probably aren't that different. They are usually the smarter kids, in my experience. In public school you have a wider range of social and economic classes. You have people who are VERY different from you.

I switched from private(Baptist) school to public in my 11th grade year. And I can honestly say it was the biggest regret in my life, if not my only regret in my life. I wanted to switch so very badly and finally got the chance, it was awful.
It wasn't that I didn't have friends. I had most of the friends I made before I even started the school, it was just different. The school is different. The teachers are WAY different. My teachers in my private school were much better, and good grades came easily to me because of that. The kids I knew from first grade up until eleventh grade I missed terribly.
Everyone at the public school would stereotype me as a goody goody because of private school. I ended up even dropping out because I was so unhappy there. Knowing that if I would have stuck it out at my private school I would have kept going and been much happier.
I, obviously, don't know your situation. If the school district you are going to is a good one(mine was NOT!!!) and things like that. I just think if you decide to really think hard about it.
Good Luck!

Public school IS different than parochial school by a long shot. Will you make it if you go? Yes. One warning though: the moral and ethical structures of your Catholic school are NOT in place at public school. You will be shocked by the lack of discipline, the moral laxities between guys and girls, and the lack of ethics in dealing with fairness between students. You MUST have your moral and ethical standards ROCK SOLID to adapt to public school. As a parent of 3 I strongly believe in private schools. The reasons are obvious. There is structure: moral, ethical, and spiritual. Problems such as drugs, sex, stealing, etc are minimal as compared to the public schools. Fairness is encourgaged in the private school system and there is a strong spiritual emphasis which helps affirm your values and ethics that control and will control your future life.

Don't do it. Public schools suck. People pick on you and call you a fag, they steal your money, they wreck your stuff and they are really rude. If you have the chance to go to a private school then do it. it's a lot better than public. If you wanna meet new people then join clubs or something like that.

personally, i prefered private school to public. after seven years of an all girls private school, it was hard for me to adjust to a public high scholl. classes are alot bigger and depending on the size of your school, its possible toknow less than 1/3 of the kids in your graduating class. also, you might find that you miss the uniform when your half awake and struggling to pick out your outfit every morning.
